My interest in Pugs was ignited many years ago by the late Joe Braddon, world famous for his IDE Pugs and Pointers. Joe was an amazing raconteur and his stories about Pugs had me thinking perhaps one in my life would be fun.......
At the time of visiting England I was a Great Dane man through and through, having successfully bred and exhibited Speciality & BIS winning Danes under the Kammerhund prefix, however I underestimated the power of the Pug!!
Back in Australia I started looking at Pugs until one day at a country show I came across a fat little roly-poly baby puppy who captivated my attention. At that point 'Tommy' was not for sale however I pleaded with his breeder, Mrs Denise Doyle, to breed me one 'just like him'! As luck would have it, after many cajoling phone calls, Denise agreed to let me show him until a replacement could be bred. That replacement never happened - 'Tommy', later renamed 'Thomas', is still with me today and is the backbone and inspiration of Lanacora Pugs.
That little roly-poly baby matured into Australian Grand Champion and New Zealand Champion Helios Tumbleweed, long since retired but still the biggest winning Pug in Australia's breed history. You can read more about Thomas in another section of this site.
Lanacora is based at our boarding kennels, Shelomith Canine Country Club and Cattery, situated just 10 mins from the centre of Hobart in the beautiful island state of Tasmania. Due to time constraints of running a boarding kennel and fitting in my other passion of breeding and showing Welsh Mountain Ponies, we don't get to show our dogs as often as in the past, however we are still highly competitive when we do.
Our breeding program is based on Thomas daughters crossed with our imported dog Ch Afterglow Away withe Fairy's, bred by Michael Gadsby in the UK. This dog is heavily Sheffield (USA) bred and has crossed exceptionally well with our bitches, producing sound, beautiful Pugs I am very proud of.
We also show Taejaan Whippets in partnership with Molly Rule-Steele and these dogs have accounted for many great wins at all breeds and speciality shows. They are wonderful dogs to live with however at Lanacora, I think Pugs will always rule!
*****LANACORA IS NOW IN JOINT OWNERSHIP*****
We welcome our new partners Ian and Michelle Rudder of South West Rocks NSW.
Ian and Michelle's integrity and enthusiasm for the breed will ensure Lanacora's future!
