Lanacora The Prefix

Many years ago at Adelaide Royal I was competing with Thomas and this lovely lady came up to the benching area to introduce herself.  I looked up to see a very smartly dressed lady in her eighties decked out in Pug brooches.  Her first words were "You don't know me however my name is Bonnie Richardson, nee Quinlivan......" and from that moment on a great friendship developed.

It panned out that Bonnie had bred Pugs many years ago under the Lanacora prefix, with Lanacora being an Aboriginal word for 'home of the kangaroo'. Bonnie had chosen this prefix in memory of her pet Kangaroo "Jimmy Britza" whom she had been given as 41st birthday present.  Bonnie hand reared Jimmy Britza and he lived until he was 16 years of age, a age quite rare for Kangaroos reared in captivity.  Both Bonnie and I have lovely identical black and white photographs of Jimmy Britza, each with a tuft of his hair taped to the back, to keep his wonderful memory alive.

When it came time for me to chose a prefix I knew that there was only one that I want.  I asked Bonnie if she would let me re-register Lanacora - and she was delighted that the prefix should live on.

Our first Lanacora champion was Lanacora Love Handles, with LuLu being shown in the partnership of Quinlivan, Tumpach and Richardson.

To this day Bonnie is still a very important part of Lanacora, she takes an active interest in our development, and with her crystal clear memory of past dogs, she keeps us well informed of the dogs featured in our pedigrees.

Thank you Bonnie Richardson for your legacy.
